Compathos Film with Social Impact Director Series @ The Hub:
"Return to El Salvador" with SPEAKER: Director Jamie Moffett
Newly released, narrated by Martin Sheen and endorsed by Desmond Tutu, Return to El Salvador is a compelling story of vibrant Salvadorian individuals and communities among the intricate geo-political systems that have profoundly impacted their lives. While documenting the country's 12-year-long civil war, it asks why 700 Salvadorans leave their country every day while reminding audiences why the fate of these people is intimately bound to the recent history of the United States. It also tells the story of the tragic death of activist Marcelo Rivera asking how it relates to Canadian mining corporations. So far, the film has played a major role in initiating changes to legislation for corporate accountability in Canada.

About the Film Series:
Together with The Hub Bay Area and Intersection for the Arts, we invite you to Compathos Film with Social Impact Director Series which presents new, critically acclaimed releases, undiscovered gems along with established award winning films which account for a range of environmental and humanitarian impacts. This year’s goals are to not only illuminate educational films and issues, but the entrepreneurial artists that are standing in the gap with their amazing talent, energy and vision.
The majority of screenings will be followed by a discussion with the director, special guest or discussion leader. We plan to explore measurable impacts, evaluate various types of media rich campaigns, and organize ongoing dialog and media resources for the community throughout the year at The Hub. Various themes will correspond with exhibits at Intersection 5M Gallery.
Visit our program schedule for upcoming screenings at Hub SoMa!

Intersection for the Arts is San Francisco's oldest alternative non-profit art space (est. 1965) and has a long history of presenting new and experimental work in the fields of literature, theater, music and the visual arts, and also in nurturing and supporting the Bay Area's cultural community through service, technical support, and mentorship programs. Intersection provides a place where provocative ideas, diverse art forms, artists, and audiences can intersect one another.
At Intersection for the Arts, experimentation and risk are possible, debate and critical inquiry are embraced, community is essential, resources and experience are democratized, and today's issues are thrashed about in the heat and immediacy of live art.
The Bay Area Video Coalition, or BAVC (pronounced “bay-vac”), is a nonprofit media arts center that was founded in 1976 by a coalition of media makers and activists who wanted to find alternative, civic-minded applications for a new technology - PortaPak video. Our continuing mission is to inspire social change by enabling the sharing of diverse stories through art, education and technology.
